Mountain biking down the Death Road stands out as one of South America's best-organized adventure activities, ideal for those looking to combine extreme landscapes with a moderate physical challenge.

The main attraction lies in the geographic contrast: in a ride of just three hours, the climate shifts dramatically from the cold of the high Andean mountains at 4,700 meters to the tropical vegetation of the Yungas.

The road is wide, made of hard-packed dirt and gravel, and today is virtually reserved for cyclists, as heavy vehicle traffic was rerouted to a modern highway.

The tour starts at 8:00 AM. The drive from La Paz City to La Cumbre (4,700 m / 15,420 ft above sea level) takes approximately one hour. First, you will descend a paved section of the road before continuing onto the famous "Death Road."

  • Part 1: Bike descent for 45 minutes on a paved road.
  • Part 2: Death Road descent for 3 hours on a dirt road.
  • Breathtaking views of beautiful waterfalls and the natural landscapes of the La Paz Yungas region.
